Each GO-3 capsule contains 400mg of vegetarian Omega 3, which is the equivalent of two servings of oily fish like mackerel. Each GO-3 capsule also contains 160mg of complementary ingredients designed to enhance the potency and bio-availability of Omega 3. Cardiologists recommend 500mg of Omega 3 for healthy people. If you have an existing heart condition, your cardiologist might recommend 2x GO-3 capsules a day.
In the respected journal ‘Science Daily’, James O'Keefe, M.D., a cardiologist from the Mid America Heart Institute in Kansas City, Mo., cites the results of several large trials that demonstrated the positive benefits associated with Omega 3 fatty acids, either from oily fish or fish oil capsules.
"The most compelling evidence for the cardiovascular benefit provided by Omega 3 fatty acids comes from three large controlled trials of 32,000 participants randomized to receive Omega 3 fatty acid supplements containing DHA and EPA or to act as controls," explains Dr. O'Keefe. "These trials showed reductions in cardiovascular events of 19 percent to 45 percent. Overall, these findings suggest that intake of Omega 3 fatty acids, whether from dietary sources or fish oil supplements, should be increased, especially in those with or at risk for coronary artery disease."
The independent Wikipedia website reports other research findings for Omega 3 and heart health.
In one Italian trial, researchers conducted a major clinical study in 11,324 patients with a recent myocardial infarction. Treatment of 1 gram per day of Omega 3 fatty acids reduced the occurrence of death, cardiovascular death and sudden cardiac death by 20%, 30% and 45% respectively. These beneficial effects were seen from three months onwards.
Wikipedia also reports on a USA study where patients with high triglycerides and poor coronary artery health were given 4 grams a day of a combination of EPA and DHA along with some monounsaturated fatty acids. Those patients with very unhealthy triglyceride levels (above 500 mg/dl) reduced their triglycerides on average 45% and their VLDL cholesterol by more than 50%. VLDL is a bad type of cholesterol and elevated triglycerides can also be deleterious for cardiovascular health.
Unlike fish oil capsules or fish itself, which physicians recommend you limit consumption of due to heavy metal contamination, GO-3 can be taken every day safely even at much higher doses.
"Patients with high triglyceride levels can benefit from treatment with 3 to 4 grams daily of DHA and EPA. Research shows that this dosage lowers triglyceride levels by 20 to 50 percent."
