Biotivia is the first supplement company to utilize active packaging technology to protect resveratrol from oxidation.

Resveratrol, the extract of red wine many scientists are calling the miracle molecule, due to its wide range of anti-aging and health properties, may not be effective in ordinary supplement form due to exposure of the active isomer to oxygen contained in the atmosphere. Both capsules and powder products are susceptible to this deterioration. Many researchers have noted that resveratrol is highly sensitive to damaging oxidation unless protected from exposure to oxygen. To solve this problem Biotivia LLC, a leading resveratrol manufacturer, has been filling its bottles with inert nitrogen gas and using special Pfizer capsules and impervious bottles to protect its resveratrol supplements. The company has just announced that it has developed a system of packaging that takes this protection to the next level.

Working closely with Mitsubishi of Japan, Biotivia has completed development and testing of a bottle design for its resveratrol supplements which captures and binds the free oxygen which enters a supplement container once it is opened.  The system called Active Packaging uses advanced oxygen scavenging technology to protect resveratrol from oxidation. Biotivia is the first nutritional supplement company in the world to use this technology to insure the continued bioactivity and freshness of their resveratrol supplements. This patent pending system prevents any degradation of the critical trans-resveratrol isomer by oxidation even when the bottle is opened daily by the supplement user. Tests of the technology done in Japan showed that after six months only 0.1% of oxygen remained in PET plastic bottles protected by this system. This enhancement is designed to work in combination with the company's bio-enhancement technology to substantially increase the potency and shelf life of its resveratrol products Bioforte and Transmax. Beginning on 10 October of this year all shipments of both Bioforte and Transmax will be protected by this system. This development represents a breakthrough in advanced and packaging design for the supplement and pharmaceutical industries. Biotivia will license the technology to a limited number of supplement manufacturers starting in 2010.

Biotivia also announced just yesterday that the University of Texas at San Antonio has joined Albert Einstein Medical Center, Ottawa Hospital and many other prestigious research institutions in trials of Transmax purified resveratrol against a number of serious conditions which cause suffering to millions of people worldwide. Biotivia looks forward to working closely with this renowned US research center.
