Of late, the health press is hot on the trail of positivity. This is due to mounting evidence showing that those who live with their glass half full are living longer.
Two of the more obvious reasons being out of the large variety of reasons:
Simply said, the bodies of pessimists may dutifully arrange things if they do not tend to expect to live a long and healthy life.
A study was recently conducted by Martin Seligman, a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania, in which pessimistic students were sent to optimism workshops. Many of them as a direct result of this began experiencing reduced anxiety and consequently, paying fewer visits to the health service department of the school.
Good news: that optimism is contagious. We have to allow that chink of light through the curtains so that our spirits are lofted. As support groups and workshops can help us learn new skills and improve our outlook, they are immensely helpful.
Following are some fun and easy ways to change the way you look at your glass:
Make it a game just says oops to yourself if you realize that you are having a downcast thought about something. Then look up and arrange your face in a smile. Subsequently, think about how many ways you can find to see it in a different manner.
Start a gratitude journal everyday, write down all the things which you have in your life, for which you are happy about and grateful for. Something is always there. At least write three everyday, and then read through them. Choose any one, sit back and close your eyes. Think about it for a minute. To really feel it, try and recall it vividly and in detail.
Choose your company carefully this can include people, what you read, or what you watch. Be careful who you are hanging out with. Pessimism and grumpiness can be harmfully contagious! Look for company that uplifts your spirits and inspires you. Choose funny or inspiring instead of news, if TV is your way of distraction. Or what about trying an inspiring read. A great book for a quick 5 minute mental lift is Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff by Richard Carlson.
